Kaliningrad, July 11, 2015 – Russia beat Serbia 3-2 (25-23, 17-25, 20-25, 26-24, 15-8) to narrowly win their FIVB World Grand Prix fixture on Saturday - and it was partly down to their excellent support on the day, according to Ekaterina Lyubushkina. “We would like to thank the fans for the support,” she said after the close match. “I call the fans the seventh player on our team. We have an unbalanced team composition right now, and new players, but nevertheless we feel like a team. I think good blocking made for 50% of our success tonight.”Russia coach Yury Marichev added: “We saw great spirit from Serbia today. We were nervous in the beginning of the match, mostly because of the result yesterday. The presence of Ksenia Ilchenko helped us a lot in the fourth set.”Serbia coach Branko Kovacevic said: I’m very sad about the result today – but not about the performance. It was a very difficult match. For some players it’s the first time they’ve played a game like this. Hopefully we will play even better tomorrow.”Serbia captain Maja Ognjenovic said: “It was difficult to play tonight, because we had a mixed team. Some players were in Baku, and are having a rest now. This year the Grand Prix is the opportunity for our young players to gain experience, and improve their skills.”
