Efimienko blocks Canada away!

Poland's Zuzanna Efimienko "closed the door" on Canada's attacks

Carolina, Puerto Rico, July 5, 2015 – Poland finished the battles in Pool K of FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2015 Group 2 in Puerto Rico with a victory.  The Red-and-Whites outplayed Canada by 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 28-26, 25-17) to secure at least the second place in the pool.  Tamara Kaliszuk contributed 21 points for the winning side, while teammate Zuzanna Efimienko impressed with 10 kill blocks for a total of 16 points in the match.  Tabitha Love was Canada’s top scorer with 20 points.

In the first set Poland were more efficient than their opponents in offence and in serving, especially in the conclusive moments, when the final 25-18 took shape.  The Canadians considerably improved the game organization on their side of the net and the spikers put enough balls on the floor to give the North Americans the edge.  Despite a late push from Poland, Canada won the set by 25-20 and tied the match at 1-1.

The third set was very competitive.  Zuzanna Efimienko’s blocking started bringing more and more points, but the outcome could not be reached before the extra-time.  The dramatic ending of the set favoured the Polish team, which won it by 28-26 to lead by 2-1.  Inspired to finish the match before a fifth set, the Europeans ran their opponents over in the fourth.  They faced no issues from the Canadian side and broke away to a 25-17 win to seal the deal.
