German coach Pedulla: “Our attitude was key for us”

Sao Paulo, Brazil, 11 July, 2015 – Germany bounced back from a loss to Thailand to defeat Belgium 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 25-15) at Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo.
Germany head coach Luciano Pedulla – “The difference from the first match was the players’ attitude. We were very attentive and aggressive today. Four of our players scored more than ten points, so I believe our attitude was key for us. Our serve was better as well, and that helped our blocking and defense. I am happy we won but we need to improve in some points."
Germany captain Margareta Kozuch – “It was a good reaction from our side after the defeat against Thailand. There was much more life and aggressiveness in our team. We were more focused and relaxed in the decisive moments. We made mistakes, it was not a perfect match. We can play better, but I am happy about the win and excited about the future and what we can achieve in the tournament."
Belgium head coach Gert Vande Broek – “I know the Germans very well and I knew they could bounce back from the defeat they had against Thailand. They were very resilient and organized. If we ever had a chance to beat Germany, it was today, but we did not deserve it."
Belgium captain Charlotte Leys – “It was disappointing. They recovered very well from their first match, and we could not play at our best level. We need to look at ourselves and talk because we definitely can play better. The match against Thailand is important for us and we need to make sure everyone is on the same page."
