Hill keeps USA on top against Turkey

USA spiked better and made fewer errors than the Turks

Kaliningrad, July 11, 2015 – USA beat Turkey 3-1 (25-12, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21) to continue their unbeaten run in the FIVB World Grand Prix on Saturday.

The match started closely, with the sides swapping points, but USA – who won four straight games prior to this tournament – just edged ahead. But then a series of Turkish mistakes and some superb American reception saw the USA draw well ahead; they won the set 25-12.

Polen Uslupehlivan fought hard for the Turks, but they couldn’t get their spikes and blocks going as consistently as the USA, and with Kimberly Hill, Nicole Fawcett and Cursty Jackson on great form, the Americans also took set two, 25-19. Turkey finally woke up in set three, leading 8-2, and despite a late USA surge, held on to win the set 25-22.

But USA dominated again, taking the fourth set 25-21, and the match 3-1. Polen Uslupehlivan was the top scorer in the match with 24 points. Kimberly Hill got 21 for USA. Read our live text commentary of the match here
