Hosting teams open pools with victories

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, July 16, 2015 - Hosting teams Italy, China and Germany recorded victories in the opening matches in pools G, H and I. All of the matches ended in straight sets - just a taster of what is coming on the last weekend before the Final Round of the 2015 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix.

The last weekend of the intercontinental round for Group 1 was opened by a series of straight sets matches.

In Pool G, Brazil dominated the match against Russia 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-17), while Italy defeated Belgium, making a come-back in the second set from 15-20 to 26-24 and wrapping up the game 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-14). 

Pool H presented the spectators with victories from volleyball powerhouses USA and China. The hosting team showed a great performance in block and despite a difficult and intense end to the match, closed it at 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 27-25). Japan fought hard against the USA, but the North Americans remained better by a few points, winning 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 26-24). 

In pool I in Stuttgart, Serbia won over Turkey 3-0 (25-20, 25-1, 25-19) giving their opponents no chance to respond in the game. Germany, supported by the local fans, found a way to overpower the Dominican Republic 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-18).
