Year in Review: USA become first team to strike World Grand Prix gold at home

Lausanne, Switzerland, December 21, 2015 - USA became the first ever team to win gold while hosting the Finals of an FIVB World Grand Prix, when they sailed through the tournament in Omaha undefeated.

It had previously all started with China and defending champions Brazil finishing the Intercontinental Round undefeated and on full points. But for the finals China and Brazil were torn between Omaha and the Pan-American Games in Toronto.

Karsta Lowe was instrumental in bringing it all home in Omaha and was named MVP of the tournament, heading an all-star 'Dream Team'.

Karsta Lowe on winning FIVB World Grand Prix trophy and MVP award:

“I am really excited and humble to be here now.”

Across the world, the 2016 FIVB World Grand Prix had brought together 28 teams in three groups, with the 'Queens of Africa' Kenya capping a brilliant year with a Group 3  top finish following a 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-23) win over Peru in the final in Canberra.

And to close the season, the Netherlands defeated Poland 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-16) in Lublin to win Group 2.
