Bangkok, Thailand, July 3, 2015 – Thailand prevailed in the 3-2 (25-17, 15-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-11) encounter with Serbia in Pool A of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix at the Huamark Indoor Stadium on Friday.

Ajcharaporn Kongyot and Onuma Sittirak led Thailand with 19 and 18 points, respectively, while Mina Popovic and Tijana Malesevic had 17 points apiece for Serbia.

Thailand opened their match with a 25-17 win but Serbia equalised with a strong set-win in the second frame 25-15.

Thailand led most of the third set but Serbia coped with their opponents’ elaborate plays. The Serbians sped to a gridlock at 23-all when the host team poorly returned their serve that allowed the visiting side to score the final two points to seal the third set victory 25-23.

Serbia dictated the tempo in the fourth set but Thailand bounced back to tie the score at 16-all. Serbia held the lead briefly but Pleumjit Thinkaow’s quick hit drilled the Serbian defence to put Thailand ahead 19-18. Wilavan Apinyapong scored on two hits, and Onuma scored from the right flank to extend the Thailand lead further 23-20. Thailand took the fourth set 25-22 from a strong off-the-block spike of Ajcharaporn.

In the tie-break, Thailand held a slim advantage over Serbia 12-11 until they stamped their authority by scoring the final three points in the set and match 15-11.
