Sittirak guides Thailand to 3-0 win against Germany

 

Onuma Sittirak scored a game-high 22 points in Thailand's 3-0 win against Germany

Sao Paulo, Brazil, Jul 10, 2015 - Onuma Sittirak scored a game-high 22 points as Thailand beat Germany 3-0 (25-22, 35-20, 25-16) in their opening Pool D match of the 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix. It was just the second time in nine matches Thailand had beaten Germany in World Grand Prix play.

Sittirak was prominent early and a powerful strike from the Thai No.6 helped her side to an 11-8 first-set lead. Denise Hanke scored for Germany to bring the margin back to one point at 22-21 in favour of Thailand, but a block from the Asian side wrapped up the opener 25-22. 

Germany worked their way to a 3-1 lead in the second but some good serving from Sittirak helped Thailand level scores at 5-5. The sides couldn't be split at 18-18 but from there, Thailand stormed away and a huge block from Sittirak wrapped up the second set 25-20.

Margaret Kozuch was working hard for Germany in the third as she had done all match, although Sittirak remained imposing for Thailand and spiked truly to give them a commanding 17-9 lead. Fittingly, it was the game's highest scorer Sittirak who sealed the 3-0 result, spiking her 22nd point of the match to give Thailand the third set 25-16 and the match 3-0. Kozuch scored a team-high 15 points for Germany.
