Leyva scores 22 in Peru's 3-0 win against Kenya

Monterrey, Mexico, June 26, 2015 - Angela Leyva scored 22 points as Peru beat Kenya 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-23) in their Pool O World Grand Prix clash. The next best scorer for Peru was Carla Rueda with eight, while Everlyne Makuto scored a team-high 11 for Kenya.

Meeting in the World Grand Prix for the first time, it was an even affair early on as the sides were locked at 12-12 after Kenya's Mercy Moim scored. From there though, Peru pulled away and Leyva was immense, scoring nine first-set points to help Peru to a 25-18 win.

Despite early aces from Kenya's Esther Wangeshi and Makuto, Peru enjoyed an 8-6 advantage at the first TTO. It was all Peru from there and they pressured Kenya into a series of unforced errors on their way to a 25-12 win and 2-0 lead.

Leyva scored the opening point of the third set  for Peru and when trailing 11-4, Kenya coach David Lungaho called a time-out. Kenya then worked their way in to the set and after a Makuto block, they led 17-16. After being up 19-17, Kenya wasn't able to carry on and extend the match to a fourth set, with Peru taking the third 25-23 and the match 3-0.
