Peruvian fans celebrate swift home victory over Kazakhstan

Peru rejoice with another point against Kazakhstan

Trujillo, Peru, July 5, 2015 – Peru defeated Kazakhstan in straight sets on the last competition day in Pool P of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2015 Group 3 to surpass Cuba in the standings and finish in second place with a 2-1 win-loss record.  The home heroines shut out their Asian visitors by 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-18), overwhelmingly running through the opponent for a swift success.  Peru’s Angela Leyva was the best scorer of the match with 15 points.

Inspired by the enthusiastic home crowd, Peru did not waste much time in winning the first set.  Angela Leyva and her teammates showed their superiority, especially in spiking and blocking, to establish control and cruise to a final 25-12.  Peru’s serving started bringing in some aces too, while Kazakhstan slightly improved their blocking efforts, but not much else changed in the second set.  The Peruvians were the dominant force on the court and doubled their lead with a swift 25-16.  The Kazakhs kept improving their performance as the match progressed, but never quite enough to reach 20 points in a single set.  The third period offered pretty much the same one-sided story of domination as Peru dismissed the opponent with a 25-18 and 3-0.
