China cruise to three-set victory over Japan

 

Hong Kong, China, July 17, 2015 – China defeated Japan 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-17) to extend their winning streak in 2015 World Grand Prix.

Set one saw an even play only until 10-10 as China were able to find another gear pulling away into 16-11 lead at the second technical timeout. An ace from Chunlei Zeng sent the her team 19-11 up and as Japan struggled to earn a point China extended the advantage to 21-11 to eventually take the set 25-13.

In the second set there was nothing between the two sides, with both teams coming up and down. When China managed to edge ahead at 16-14 it proved to be a pivotal point as the team controlled the rest of the game and closed out the set 25-20.

In set three China quickly established a three point lead 8-5 and were in control of the game. In the late stage they managed to build up the advantage to 20-14 which paved the way to a 25-17 win after a missed serve from Haruyo Shimamura.
