Kaliszuk scores 19 to lead Poland to 3-1 victory

 

Anna Grejman sends a strong spike across the Canadian side

Formosa, Argentina, July 11, 2015 – Tamara Kaliszuk scored 19 points to spearhead the Poland offence in their 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 25-17, 27-25) win over Canada to recover from their earlier loss in Pool L of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix at the Stadium Sincuentario on Saturday.

Kaliszuk’s output included 13 attacks, one block and five superb aces, while team-mate Anna Grejman added 16 points to outscore their opponents’ top scorer Tabitha Love, who managed to score only 11 points.

Poland and Canada gauged each other and split victories in the first two sets at 25-20 for Poland in the match opener and 25-19 for Canada in the second frame. In the third set, Canada held the lead at 15-12 then Canada gained advantage at 16-15 at the second technical timeout. Poland had an upsurge that limited Canada to score only two points 25-17.

Poland led throughout the fourth set until Canada pushed harder to bridge the gap at 19-18. Poland brought the score closer to the end at 23-21 but Canadian attackers persistently challenged the Polish defenders and were successful as they tied the score at 23-all. Both squads exchanged deadlocks and leads until Poland’s Zuzanna Efimienko found a hole in the Canadian defence, and Brittany Page’s error concluded the set and match 27-25.
