Kozuch helps Germany win first World Grand Prix match

Sao Paulo, Brazil, 11 July, 2015 – A dominant performance at the end of the fourth set allowed Germany to defeat Belgium 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 25-15) in Pool D of the FIVB World Grand Prix on Saturday. Germany scored 10 of the final 13 points in the fourth set to end the match on a positive note.


Margareta Kozuch led Germany with 22 points, while Maren Brinker added 19 points. Belgium’s Laura Heyrman won the most points off of blocks, five, and recorded 14 total points. Kaja Grobelna added 11 points for Belgium.


This was the first ever meeting between Belgium and Germany at the World Grand Prix. Overall, Germany has won nine of their 10 matches against Belgium at the World and European Championships. Belgium’s only win came at the 1956 World Championships. 


Germany will next play Brazil on Sunday in Sao Paulo, followed by Belgium against Thailand.
