Love powers Canadian 3-1 drive

 

Canada prevailed 3-1 over Argentina

Formosa, Argentina, July 10, 2015 – Canada prevailed in the fourth set scuffle to gain a 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-14, 31-29) win over hosts Argentina in Pool L of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix at the Stadium Sincuentario on Friday.

Tabitha Love topped all scorers with 22 points to lead the Canadian offence. Paula Nizetich and Lucia Fresco scored 17 points each for Argentina.

Canada led 8-6 in the first set but Argentina scored two-straight points to tie the score at 8-all until the Argentine side grabbed the lead 10-9 from a block by Lucia Fresco. Canada reacted quickly to tie the score at 12-all. Argentina, however, showed better defence at the net that turned the tables at 22-21 when Emilce Sosa blocked Love. Another block by Nizetich on Kyla Richey gave Argentina the set ball, until Sosa followed it up with a kill to secure the set 25-22.

Argentina worked its service game well and jumped to a 7-3 lead in the second set then later on a deadly serve from Canada levelled the score at 14-all. Argentina held a 23-20 lead but the Canadians surprisingly rampaged to a 25-23 victory in the second set. Canada’s chances brightened up as Lucille Charuk’s performance in crucial plays lifted her team to a 9-5 advantage over the home team in the third set. Canada capitalised on Argentina’s errors to build a commanding 18-9 lead. Canada were rewarded with the 25-14 set victory from an Argentine service error.

Canada led 11-7 in the fourth set but got a threat as Argentina cut down their lead 12-10. After a long struggle late in the set, Canada still prevailed 31-29.
