Porec, Croatia, July 3, 2015 – Argentina triumphed victorious in the second match of the first day in the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2015 Group 2 tournament in Porec.  The South American squad upset the home favourites from Croatia by 3-1 (25-19, 26-24, 15-25, 25-16) to gain their first three points in this season’s campaign.  Both teams were quite prolific from the serving line with a total of 18 aces between them.  Argentina’s Leticia Boscacci was the most prolific scorer among the individual players with 20 points on her tally, followed closely by Croatia’s Samanta Fabris with 19.

Excessive reception errors did not allow the Croatians to hold on to the lead they had during the first half of the first set.  Argentina took advantage to take control at 15-14 before breaking further away in the score.  Two aces in a row placed the South Americans at set point and they converted it immediately for 25-19 in he first set.  Argentina maintained a lead through most of the second set and looked ready to make it 2-0 with the three-point advantage they had at 23-20.  The home side, however, did not surrender just yet and drew level at 24-24.  After the time-out called by Guillermo Orduna, the visiting side regrouped, earned another set point and converted it brilliantly with an ace by Paula Yamila Nizetich for 26-24.

The Argentineans seemed to have relaxed a bit too soon as they were not at all competitive to the aggressive home team after 4-4 in set three.  The Croatians hammered on to open up a huge gap and Bernarda Cutuk’s successful block closed the set at a landslide 25-15 Croatia’s way.  At this moment Argentina woke up again and reacted swiftly in the next set, breaking away in the score and cruising to a 25-16 victory with Leticia Boscacci signing under the last two points of her team.
