Canada beat Pool K opponents Bulgaria in blockathon

 

Tabitha Love scored a game-high 24 points to lead Canada to a 3-2 win against Bulgaria

Carolina, Puerto Rico, July 4, 2015 – Canada earned their first win of the 2015 World Grand Prix, beating Bulgaria 3-2 (18-25, 25-14, 25-14, 20-25, 15-13) in Pool K. Canada earned 18 points from blocks and Bulgaria scored 14 points from blocks.

Bulgaria captain Eva Yaneva led her team well in the first set and the took the early advantage 1-0. Canada responded in the second set and were dominant to take it 25-14 and they took a 2-1 match lead by winning the third set by the same score line, 25-14. The European squad lifted further in the fourth set and were able to tie the match with a 25-20 set win and force a decider.

In the tie break, Tabitha Love led the Canadians to a 15-13 win and finished the contest with a game-high 24 points in the 3-2 victory. Yaneva scored 22 points for Bulgaria. Canada's Shanice Marcelle and Bulgaria's Mira Todorova were impressive in defence with both scoring six points from blocks.
