Pietersen and Sloetjes combine for 56 points in Dutch tie-break win

 

The Netherlands' Judith Pietersen slips past and attack in the Argentine defence

Formosa, Argentina, July 11, 2015 – The Netherlands experienced its toughest match so far in the competition, narrowly escaping a difficult encounter with Argentina 3-2 (25-21, 25-18, 20-25, 26-28, 15-12) in Pool L of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix at the Stadium Sincuentario on Saturday.

Judith Pietersen and Lonneke Sloetjes produced an equal output of 28 points to lead the Dutch offensive, while Emilce Sosa and Paula Yamila Nizetich finished with 17 and 16 points, respectively, for Argentina.

The Netherlands started off strong in the match as Sloetjes wreaked havoc on the Argentine blockers with her fierce attacks. The Dutch side took the first two sets 25-21 and 25-18. Argentina’s last minute surge in the third set left the Netherlands helpless as Yamila Nizetich converted on crucial attempts from the attack line. Argentina claimed the third set 25-20.

Argentina showed persistence in the fourth set pushing the visiting Dutch squad to play the tie-break set 28-26. Leticia Boscacci had an epic moment as she scored on blocks that sealed the Argentine victory in the fourth set. In the fifth set, the Netherlands finally got the break as they led at side change 8-5. Netherlands this time protected their advantage and secured the fifth set 15-12.
