Australia go for first-ever World Grand Prix win

 

Head-to-Head

• Australia and Cuba will meet for the first time in the World Grand Prix.
• Australia will play their first match against a team representing NORCECA in the competition. 
• Cuba lost their last six World Grand Prix matches against AVC sides.
• These teams met at the 1982 World Championship with Cuba winning in straight sets.

Australia

• Australia made their debut in last year's World Grand Prix. They finished in penultimate place ahead of Algeria.
• Australia are eyeing their first win in the competition (L6). The only other country without a World Grand Prix win is Algeria.
• They started last year's campaign without winning a set in their first four matches, but then they won one in their fifth and they claimed two sets in their sixth match.

Cuba

• Cuba will participate in their 21st World Grand Prix, only missing the 2009 and 2010 editions.
• Cuba won the World Grand Prix in 1993 and 2000 and they were runners up as recent as 2008. 
• They have won one of their last 23 World Grand Prix matches, a straight set win over Canada in 2014. 
• Cuba are four sets shy from winning their 500th in the World Grand Prix. Only Brazil (704), China (619), United States (511) and Russia (508) have achieved this in the competition.
