Cuba strive for rare feat of 500 set wins

 

Head-to-Head

• This will be the first World Grand Prix meeting between Cuba and Algeria. 
• Cuba will also meet a CAVB side for the first time in the competition.
• Algeria played four matches against NORCECA sides in the World Grand Prix, losing all four of them. They won only one set in these four meetings.

Cuba

• Cuba will participate in their 21st World Grand Prix, only missing the 2009 and 2010 editions.
• Cuba won the World Grand Prix in 1993 and 2000 and they were runners up as recent as 2008. 
• They have won one of their last 23 World Grand Prix matches, a straight set win over Canada in 2014. 
• Cuba are one set shy from winning their 500th in the World Grand Prix. Only Brazil (704), China (619), United States (511) and Russia (508) have achieved this in the competition.

Algeria

• Algeria will participate in their third World Grand Prix after 2013 and 2014. In both previous participations they finished in last place.
• Algeria are eyeing their first win in the competition (L15). The only other country without a World Grand Prix win is Australia.
• Algeria have won three sets in their 15 World Grand Prix matches.
