Great serving gave us the win, says Ognejenovic

The Serbs made few mistakes against Turkey

Stuttgart, July 16, 2015 – Serbia’s Maja Ognejenovic said that great service helped her side to their 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-19) win over Turkey in their FIVB World Grand Prix match on Thursday.

“We expected a tough match against a Turkish team, although some players were missing,” said Ognejenovic. “Today we served very well, which made life easy for us. It wasn’t our best performance but we can be satisfied, because we only made a few errors. With this victory in first game, we still believe in our chance for reaching the final six – but we will go step by step.”

Turkey coach Ferhat Akbas said: “We didn’t fight in the first two sets. It was a bad game for us. For the game against Germany on tomorrow, we have to change our behaviour and need to push more than today. I´m disappointed because we worked very hard and didn’t see it during the match.”

Güldeniz Onal, captain of Turkey, added: “We played against them in Russia, and made a much better game than today. I don’t know what happened. We tried to push and tried to close the score, but they were better in attack and defence. We can't play against Germany this way and have to forget the performance against Serbia.”
