Italy prevail over Belgium in straight sets

 

Ankara, Turkey, July 4, 2015 - Italy claimed their first victory in Group 1 after their 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-20) win over Belgium.

Both teams started in inspired mood and were trading points in the early stage of the first set as Italy raced off into a 16-11 lead. Lucia Bosetti provided the solid foundation for her team's success with her attacking skills which anabled Italy to close out first set at 25-15.

Belgium tried to recover in the second set and points were traded until 7-7. After the first technical tie out an unforced error from Belgium's setter and a fantastic serve from Bosetti broke the deadlock to put Italy 11-8 up. This gave the Italian team confidence as the quickly extended the lead to 20-12, eventually finishing off the set at 25-20.

The third set started even with a slight Germany's advantage 8-7 at the first technical timeout. Celine Van Gestel and Bosetti were the main weapons for their teams as the score was still level at 14 all. However, it was Team Germany who took a two point advantage into the second technical timeout and even Belgium managed to catch up at 17-17, the Italians did not allow the set to slip away and clinched ot 25-20.
