Italy sail past Dominican Republic in straight sets

 

Saitama, Japan, July 12, 2015 - Italy defeated Dominican Republic in straight sets (25-13, 25-15, 25-19) having the game in their control from the beginning to the last point.

First set saw Italy taking an early lead 6-3 after an ace from Valentina Diouf before Dominican Republic erased the advantage and tied the score at 6-6. Some good blocking allowed Italy to go 10-7 up and to extend the lead to 16-8 at the second technical timeout. Dominican Republic were struggling to cope with powerful attacks from Diouf and lost the set 25-13.

In set two Italu quickly established a comfortable advantage 8-3 which they were building up step by step to reach ten point lead 16-6 at the second technical timeout. Dominican Republic were not able to withstand Italy's power gifting them the set 25-15.

In the third set Dominican Republic were trying to stay in the match only until 5-5 as Italy raced off quickly into a 10-6 lead. The European side were able to penetrate the oppostion's defence with different attacking options to close out the set at 25-19.
