Japan overwhelm Dominican Republic in straight sets

 

Saitama, Japan, July 11, 2015 - Japan outplayed Dominican Republic in a pretty one-sided match 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-15) to mark their first victory in Pool E.

Japan got off to a flying start establishing quickly a four point advantage at 6-2. A spike from Haruyo Shimamura pushed Japan further away to 14-8, but Dominican Republic managed to reduce the gap again to four points at 19-15. Japan however put the gas pedal down to finish off the set 25-19.

Set two saw a pretty even start with 3-3 on the scoreboard. Soon Japan gained the control of the game and pulled away into a 7-3 lead which they easily extended to 16-7 at the second technical timeout to eventually take the set 25-12.

In the third set Japan took a slender advantgae 6-5, but Dominican Republic tied the score at 8-8 and move ahead 9-8 on an ace by Carolina Rondon. They were, however, not able to withstand Japan's serving power and quickly found themselves 18-12 down. Japan put even more pressure and raced off to a comfortable 25-15 win.
