Lowe hits the heights as USA edge Serbia

USA overcame a tough Serbian comeback

Kaliningrad, July 12, 2015 – USA overcame Serbia in a five set thriller at the end of a successful weekend for USA. They prevailed 25-18, 24-26, 30-28, 19-25, 15-9.

Tijana Bošković and Brankica Mihajlovic stood out for the Serbs in set one, but USA landed far more spikes and blocks, with Kimberly Hill and Tetori Dixon catching the eye. They won it 25-18.

The Serbs rallied and won set two, coming from behind led by Bošković. They took the set 26-24. And thanks to American mistakes in service and in reception, they led into set three, as well. But USA regrouped, and with Karsta Lowe hitting form, just edged the set, 30-28. There was another twist though, and the Serbs, strong in defence at the net, and with Jelena Nikolic joining the scoring, they powered through to win set four 25-19, and force a fifth set.

But the Americans had the final word, winning the last set 15-9 thanks to some great team play. Karsta Lowe was the top scorer in the match with 19 points. Tijana Bošković got 12 for Serbia. Follow our live match text here
