USA captain Courtney Thompson says they will be better after Italy victory

Ankara, Turkey, July 3, 2015 - World champions USA started its 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix campaign with a 3-1 (25-27, 25-21, 25-22, 25-23) victory against Italy in Pool C at the Baskent Volleyball Hall on Friday.

USA coach Karch Kiraly: “Today both teams did not play pretty. It is the first game of the 2015 World Grand Prix so it is normal. We know we can do better but sometimes it is not always pretty. We figured it out how to make some plays and I am happy that we solved some problems.”

USA captain Courtney Thompson: “This is definitely like a first match. We can go better each day. We can do a lot better and we need to do a lot better. We are committed to that. We will train hard and try to be better.”

Italy coach Marco Bonitta: “Our teams inexperience appeared at the end of the sets when we could not recover mentally and physical in bad situations. I am satisfied though because we fought until the end.”

Italy captain Valentina Arrighetti: “We made a good thing during the game - we were ahead of our opponent in most of the match. This is good because we play against a great team. We are really young and we will learn how to finish the set.”
