We won through teamwork, says Thai coach Radchatagriengkai

The Thais were faster than their opponents, says their captain

Sao Paulo, Brazil, July 12, 2015 – Thailand head coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai said that his side’s teamwork was helped them beat Belgium 3-1 (25-11, 25-23, 22-25, 25-14) to win its third match in the FIVB World Grand Prix 2015.

“I would like to congratulate my players and my staff,” he said. “They did a great job and we won through teamwork. Individually, Belgium has a lot of talent. They have skilled players, but our teamwork was superior. It was not easy to get any point from Belgium, we had to give 100%”.

Thailand captain Apinyapong Wilavan added: “we used the strategy that worked against Germany. We knew they were taller and stronger, so we needed to be quicker. It was a very good weekend as we won two important matches, and I am really happy about it.”

Belgium head coach Gert Vande Broek said: “we started the match playing really badly. We had no pressure in our serving. We improved it in the second set and from there on we had a match, because before it was only Thailand playing. I cannot be satisfied, but I have to congratulate Thailand for the way they play volleyball.”

Belgium captain Charlotte Leys said: “They started the match with a lot of offensive combinations and we were not ready for it. We understood better how to play against them in the second set, when our serve was better as well. We had a lot of energy before winning the third set, but it was a disappointing end to score just 14 points in the fourth set.”
