Overview

Team profile

On their first appearance in the World Grand Prix since their 2003 debut, Canada finished seventh in Group 2 last year. They won matches against Argentina and Peru but only had Cuba below them on the standings after the Intercontinental Round. Twelve years ago they were equal-11th. At the 2014 World Championship, the Canadians finished equal-17th. Despite winning their opening fixture against Cameroon, defeats in their remaining four matches saw them finish fifth in their pool.

Canada have competed eight times at the World Championship and their best results were 11th-place finishes in 1974 and 1982. They have won two silver medals and eight bronzes at the NORCECA Championships and also took bronze at the 1995 Pan American Games. At the 2013 NORCECA Championships, they took fourth place. A loss in straight sets to USA in their semifinal pitted them against Puerto Rico in the third-place match, where they suffered the same result. As hosts of the 2015 Pan American Games, the team will be relishing the prospect of playing on home territory and will be looking to improve on their seventh-place finish in 2011. At the 2014 Pan American Cup, Canada finished sixth after losing to Puerto Rico in the quarterfinals, before going down to Cuba in a classification match.
