Buijs lifts Netherlands to straight-set win over Poland

 

Netherlands recorded a 3-0 win over Poland

Formosa, Argentina, July 10, 2015 – Anne Buijs exerted all her effort to fire 17 points and lead Netherlands to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-15) win over Poland in Pool L of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix at the Stadium Sincuentario on Friday.

Maret Balkestein-Grothues was the second best scorer for the Netherlands with 12 points, while Daria Paszek and Tamara Kaliszuk both scored 10 points for Poland.

The Netherlands led on all fronts with 44 attacks, 11 blocks and six service aces to rule over their European neighbours with a sweep.

Both squads traded with errors early in the first set but Robin De Kruijf led her team to gain an 8-6 edge at the first technical timeout, then Anne Buijs drilled a diagonal to get her team a bigger 12-8 advantage. The Netherlands took advantage of Poland’s errors to make their final run and secure the set 25-18.

Poland pushed harder in the second set but could not break out of the slimmest 17-15 advantage of the Netherlands. Sloetjes nailed the final two points to seal the second set victory 25-20. Poland suffered in similar fashion in the third set but with less passion to fight out the Dutch side. The Netherlands closed the set and match 25-15.
