Mexico prevail over Australia in four sets

 

Cheraga, Algeria, July 5, 2015 - Mexico’s Dulce Carranza scored a game-high 23 points that helped her team to a 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22) win over Australia in Pool Q.

The beginning of the first set was a tight affair with both teams having short dominant phases to take a lead before being pegged back. Mexico build up a three points advantage at 16-13 and even if Australia called the timeout with 18-15 deficit to regroup, the were not able to catch up allowing Mexico to take the set 25-18.

In the second set Georgina Rowe scored twice in the beginning as Australia quickly extended the lead to 6-2 dominating in every aspect. Mexico, however, pulled back to 16-15 and then tied the score at 21-21. In the late stage Mexico lost their way a little wich led to a 25-22 win for Australia. Set three saw an early Mexico's lead as they raced off to 8-5 and eventually 14-9 advantage. Australia were not resistant dropping many points and quickly found themselves 19-12 down letting Mexico to finish off the set at 25-19.

Mexico started the fourth set in confident manner allowing them to speed into an early lead 11-8. Both teams entertained the fans with several long rallies but Mexico managed to keep three point advantage until the second technical timeout. Some big block helped Australia to tie the score 22 all, but it was Mexico who kept their nerves to take the set 25-22.
